Full Membership
You don’t have to be a sawmiller to become an ASHS Full Member, we welcome members from across the timber industry who share our passion for a healthy, locally driven, sustainable future for Scotland’s timber and forests.
From landowners looking to make the most out of their woodlands, to furniture makers crafting beautiful finished timber products, ASHS have a diverse of range of members – enriching and strengthening our organisation.
We seek to grow our network of likeminded professionals – to the benefit of all of our member businesses as well as the Scottish industry as a whole.
Applications to become a Full Member are reviewed by our Board of Directors. We’ll ask you to provide a bit of information about yourself so that we can assess whether your business is compatible with our ethos.
To become a Full ASHS member you must have a professional grounding in sawmilling or a related timber trade. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please get in touch with the ASHS co-ordinator describing the nature and structure of your business.
Members Owned
ASHS is a Co-operative Society – owned equally by our Full members. Upon joining ASHS new members buy a £100 share in the company, which also covers their first year of subscription fees.
ASHS shares cannot be bought or sold and are non-refundable. If a member chose to leave the organisation, their share would be dissolved and ASHS retain the value.
After buying their £100 share capital upon joining ASHS, members continue to pay £100 each year in subscription fees.

Voting at the AGM and a chance to join the ASHS Board and shape the direction of our organisation.
How do ASHS collect their fees?
All of our membership subscriptions are collected via direct debit, managed by GoCardless. This direct debit is set up by new members upon joining (with the assistance of the ASHS co-ordinator).
The ASHS subscription calendar renews on the 4th of April each year. The ASHS co-ordinator will assist new members transition into the ASHS payment plan as they join.

ASHS is owned and managed by its Full Members.
Our Full Members are made up of businesses and professionals who are directly active in the cycle of Scotland’s trees and forests – planting, harvesting, processing, and supplying.

To become an ASHS Full Member your business or work must be involved in one or more parts of the Scottish Forestry and home-grown timber using chain.
This could include landowners (with an interest in forestry), foresters, forestry contractors, arboriculturalists, sawmills, timber processors and timber users – all with an interest in improving the markets and sustainable use of home grown timber, especially hardwoods.
